As we begin
another wonderful chapter in the library we remind you all to
Practice Random Acts of Reading.

Welcome to the
St. Bernadette Library Media Center page. Here you will find important
information and links pertaining to our Library.
Our goal for our
PK-3rd grade classes is to promote the love of reading by sharing a story each
week with the children. In PK-K, we follow each story with a story
related activity. In 1st-3rd, after story time the children are allowed
to check out a book. We introduce basic library skills in Kindergarten
and reinforce those skills from 1st through 3rd grade.
Our curriculum
for 4th grade is to teach advanced library skills, map and atlas skills.
We will also be researching the 50 states. This year we are going to
participate in a United State Postcard Exchange where we send a Florida
postcard to a class in each of the 50 states and anxiously wait for the arrival
of postcards from the 49 other states. We are still missing a few states
so if anyone knows a teacher/friend from another state that would be willing to
join our exchange, please contact us.
In Grades 5th
through 7th, we will be offering a special reading comprehension course called
Comprehension-Wise. This highly acclaimed enrichment course is designed
to build and enhance the reading comprehension skills of students. To
read our parent introduction letter click
here.
In 8th Grade, we
will be offering a comprehension study skills course called Study-Wise.
The course includes instruction in organizational strategies, time management
techniques, learning/study strategies, note-taking methods, reading speed and
comprehension techniques as well as test-taking strategies. To read our
parent introduction letter, please click

Library Policies
-
1st Grade through 3rd Grade :
May check out 1 book per week.
-
4th Grade through 8th Grade : May check out 2 books per week.
Students must
return their books each week before they may check out another. There are
NO OVERDUE FINES for late books. However, students may not borrow any new
library materials until the overdue items are returned. Accidents do
happen…but LOST OR DAMAGED ITEMS MUST BE PAID FOR (the price of the book and a
$5.00 processing fee) before students may borrow more library materials.
Bobcat Birthday Book Club - 56 Members and
Counting...
In
celebration of your child's birthday, you can donate a book in their name to
the St. Bernadette Library. One of the two ways to do this:
-
Go to amazon.com by clicking the image on the right, click on Wish List
section, enter St. Bernadette Library, shop for your book and the
book will be shipped to school
-
Or, you can fill out the form, send it to school in an envelope with a check
for $20 and we will make a book selection appropriate to your child's reading
level.

A
bookplate will be placed inside the front cover and your child will have the
honor of being the first person to check out the book. Summer birthdays
may be celebrated at any time.
A
picture of your child and their book will be taken and placed on our "Bobcat
Birthday Book Club Bulletin Board" and your child will be invited to a special
party at the end of the school year.
You
can also donate a book to honor a special teacher or staff member in your
child's life. A bookplate will be placed on the inside cover of the book
and will include both names. This is a wonderful way to create a lasting
memory for years to come.
I
think this is a special program and a wonderful way to honor your child's
birthday or a special person and enhance our library with many new and exciting
books!!!
